Nancy Carey Memorial Scholarship Fund

Nancy Carey served Isabella County as a teacher for over twenty years. She was passionate about Speech and English, challenging her students to achieve academic excellence and become effective communicators. Her teaching extended well beyond the classroom as she was heavily involved in her school’s debate and forensics extracurriculars. Nancy served as a debate coach for over two decades, a passion that sparked when she competed on Wayne State University’s debate team as an undergraduate.

Nancy Carey

Nancy was inspired to become an educator by her mother, who served as a teacher and school administrator in the Detroit area her whole life. Nancy taught in Lakeview Public Schools, Mt. Pleasant High School, and Sacred Heart Academy, impacting hundreds of students in the process. In addition to teaching, Nancy gave back to the community through the League of Women Voters and local Community Cancer Support Groups.

The Nancy Carey Memorial Scholarship honors her legacy by recognizing her commitment to her students and helping graduating seniors pursue the academic subjects about which she was most passionate.
