William E. and Idonea Hersee House Fund

The William E. and Idonea Hersee House Fund was established in 2007 by Idonea Hersee for the purpose of providing support to the Mt. Pleasant Area Community Foundation to maintain the The Hersee House, located at 306 S. University Ave. in Mt. Pleasant.

Hersee House

Idonea “Dony” Hersee passed away on September 14, 2009 at the young age of 99. Mrs. Hersee was born in Owosso, Michigan. She attended Central State Teachers College in Mt. Pleasant and received her teaching certificate in 1931. She married William E. Hersee, M. D. in 1934. Dr. Hersee began a medical practice in Mt. Pleasant soon thereafter. The Hersees spent most of their adult lives in Mt. Pleasant, where they have been a strong presence in the community. Dony was an active supporter of Veterans Memorial Library, the Red Cross and the Community Foundation.

Mrs. Hersee is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sandy and Dennis Olson, her grandson, Mark Olson, and many other loving family members and friends. Although Mrs. Hersee is no longer with us, she will never be forgotten. Before her death, Dony graciously donated the family home to the Mt. Pleasant Area Community Foundation.

In 2010, the Hersee House was renovated to function as an office while retaining the welcoming feel of a home. View photos of the renovation here.

The For Good. For Ever. Walkway in front of the Hersee House recognizes those who contributed financially to the maintenance of the Hersee House. Sections of the sidewalk are replaced as new bricks are added. Support the Hersee House today by etching your name in history. Buy a Brick...Build a Foundation!
