Mt. Pleasant Area Community Foundation

For good. For ever.

Our mission is to enhance the quality of life for all citizens of Isabella County, now and for generations to come, by attracting and holding permanent endowed funds from a wide range of donors, addressing needs through grant making and providing leadership on key community issues.

Ed and Marcia Schmidt Memorial Fund

Edward and Marcia Schmidt began their life together on June 16, 1962. They were married in Marcia’s hometown of Greenville. Ed grew up on a farm in Leelanau County near Glen Arbor. He and Marcia met in Greenville, where they both taught in the Greenville Public Schools. Over the years, they moved first to Stanton, then finally to Mt. Pleasant, where they lived from 1965 to 2012.  Together, they raised four children: Kip, Cynthia, Kurt, and Lynn.

Marcia stopped teaching to stay home with the children, but later took a job as the secretary for the United Way of Isabella County. After retirement, she volunteered at the Art Reach Center.  Ed taught and coached in the Mt. Pleasant schools from 1965 to 1995.

Edward and Marcia Schmidt

In retirement, both Ed and Marcia were very involved with the Veterans Memorial Library. Their service with the library is a testament to their dedication to literacy and learning in the community.

The Ed and Marcia Schmidt Memorial Fund was established in 2014 as a permanent endowment fund benefiting the Chippewa River District Library.
