Mt. Pleasant Area Community Foundation

For good. For ever.

Our mission is to enhance the quality of life for all citizens of Isabella County, now and for generations to come, by attracting and holding permanent endowed funds from a wide range of donors, addressing needs through grant making and providing leadership on key community issues.

W. Sidney and Judith French Smith Community Fund

The W. Sidney and Judith French Smith Community Fund, one of the first donor advised funds established within the Mt. Pleasant Area Community Foundation, was created to enhance downtown Mt. Pleasant.

For several decades, the Smiths have exhibited strong ties to Mt. Pleasant and the downtown area specifically. Growing up on Washington Street, Sid has fond memories of the grocery stores and candy shops that made up the business district, just blocks away from his house. Originally from metro Detroit, Judy adopted Mt. Pleasant as her hometown and has also developed a love for its downtown area.

Through the years, Judy and Sid have together made a commitment to downtown by transforming many of the historic buildings. Sid helped develop what is now the Mercantil Bank building and Judy owned and operated the retail boutique, French Collection, for 12 years. Still today, the Smiths maintain their offices downtown and offer retail space for local, independent businesses.
