Habitat for Humanity Fund
In October of 2023, Habitat for Humanity of Isabella County established a fund aiming to address the critical need for housing solutions in Isabella County. This fund also provides a new avenue for donor support.
In partnership with MPACF, HFHIC sees this fund as a catalyst for its mission — bringing people together to build homes, communities, and hope. With over 30 years of service in the Mt. Pleasant community, HFHIC has been a steadfast force, combatting substandard housing by building and remodeling homes for families. The process involves financial coaching, selective family vetting, and a unique “sweat equity” requirement where each family member contributes volunteer hours toward their home build.
HFHIC's mission extends beyond housing placement; it is dedicated to ensuring families not only secure homes but become successful homeowners, thriving within their communities. HFHIC's impact continues with initiatives like A Brush with Kindness, assisting homeowners with outdoor projects, and the Priority Home Repair program, offering new furnaces, water heaters, roofs, and urgent repairs to low-income homeowners in Isabella County facing challenges due to age, disability, or family circumstances.
HFHIC recognizes the increasing struggle for safe, decent, and affordable housing. The recent ALICE report, by United Way of Gratiot and Isabella Counties, indicates 23% of households in Isabella County are in poverty. HFHIC takes direct action, offering low-income families the opportunity for homeownership and home preservation, addressing various facets of community health.
All HFHIC’s work leads back to positively impacting the community, one family at a time, ensuring safe, decent, and affordable homes.
