Mt. Pleasant Area Hockey Fund
In 1987, a group of outdoor enthusiasts were working tirelessly to promote skating and ice hockey for the youth of Isabella County. They started the Amateur Hockey Association of Mt. Pleasant (AHAMP) to promote involvement in hockey and skating, which encourages healthy competition, sportsmanship, and camaraderie amongst participants of all ages and genders.
Throughout the years, the AHAMP created an outdoor rink, began a figure skating group, and in 1997, they built an indoor rink, now called the Martin (I.C.E.) Arena, located at the Isabella Community Sportsplex in Mt. Pleasant.
Now home to the Mount Pleasant Area Hockey team, a co-operative high school varsity program. The establishment of the Martin (I.C.E.) Arena was made possible with much support from the community. In addition to monetary donations, they received bank loans, state grants, funding from the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe, and volunteers donated their time, construction materials, even the land.
In 2019, supporters of the skating program established the Mt. Pleasant Area Hockey Fund at the Mt. Pleasant Area Community Foundation to support the ongoing success and future of varsity ice hockey in the Mt. Pleasant Area.
“We hope that future varsity ice hockey supporters will continue to build on this corpus of funds, allowing for greater annual gifts to support the future needs of the Mt. Pleasant Area varsity hockey program,” said Bob Weisenburger, longtime supporter.
