Thompson-Blackmer VFW Post 4106 Community Fund
The Thompson Blackmer VFW Post 4106 in Weidman, Michigan served as a prominent figure of the Weidman community for nearly 40 years. Built and established in 1984, the Post was named in honor of two young men who were KIA (killed in action) in Vietnam: Barry Thompson, from Weidman, and William Blackmer, from Barryton.
Faced with declining participation, the remaining members of the Thompson Blackmer VFW Post 4106 in Weidman, Michigan decided to dissolve the organization. They decided to establish the Thompson-Blackmer VFW Post 4106 Community Fund at the Mt. Pleasant Area Community Foundation as a way to continue to support community organizations and veterans groups in the Central Michigan area.
“Our VFW Post was forced to close as we were having trouble getting members to attend meetings, but we wanted to remember the ones who worked hard to build the Post,” said Terry Kunst, member of the VFW Post 4106. “We felt that the Community Foundation was the best way to honor the Post and preserve the name.”
This endowed fund will continue to preserve the Thompson Blackmer VFW Post 4106 in perpetuity, and support veterans and community organizations for generations to come.
