Sue Ann Watters Music Scholarship Fund
The Sue Ann Watters Music Scholarship Fund was created in 2016 to honor Sue Watters and her love of music. Sue was the organist at Sacred Heart Parish in Mt. Pleasant for 42 years, retiring in October 2011. She dedicated countless hours to music, especially to weekend Masses, weddings, funerals and the Sacred Heart Choir.
Born in Muskegon, MI in 1938, Sue started taking piano lessons at the age of five under the direction of Charles Rousseau. She attended Mason County Eastern High School in Custer, MI where she played the saxophone in the school band. At the age of 15, Sue became the pianist at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Custer and Sacred Heart Church in Victory Township. In the winter, her father would hook up a horse and sleigh to take her to church to play for Mass. During her junior year, Sue became an accompanist for ballet lessons and won many first place honors in amateur programs. She played the piano for weddings, school events, and civic functions.
Sue married Ollie Watters in 1958. She was a devoted wife; mother of twelve children: Holly, Kim, Leslie, Kelly, Jody, James, Jerry, Eric, Danny, Mark, Mindy and Sondra; and grandmother of 32 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
