Community Sculpture Call for Proposals
The Mt. Pleasant Area Community Foundation will be adding an outdoor sculpture near the gateway to their office (the Hersee House) at 306 S. University St., Mt. Pleasant, MI, made possible in part by a grant from the Michigan Arts and Culture Council.
Theme:
A traditional sculpture representative of family or nature.
Size:
The sculpture will be permanently installed in front of the Hersee House. It should not exceed 48 inches wide by 48 inches deep by 84 inches tall.
Materials:
This is an outdoor sculpture placed in Michigan. As such, it should be composed of substances built for longevity such as metal, stone, or other weather resistant materials needing minimal maintenance.
Timeline:
Proposals from artists should be received by the Foundation no later than January 15, 2023. The artist chosen will be notified by February 10, and will have until July 14, 2023 to complete and deliver the sculpture to the Hersee House.
Artists wishing to submit should follow the guidelines below:
Submit a sketch of the sculpture and indicate with ability to modify if necessary.
Provide dimensions expected and the type of materials to be used.
Artists will be expected to assist with installation as necessary.
Provide a brief bio of the artist along with photos of his/her work.
Submit proposals to the Mt. Pleasant Area Community Foundation at PO Box 1283, Mt. Pleasant, MI 48804-1283 by January 15, 2023.
A panel consisting of Foundation Trustees, local artists, and community members will judge the submissions. A photo of the location and a dimension sketch is included below. The selected artist will receive a $3,000 commission and the sculpture will become the property of the Foundation.
The Foundation will prepare the concrete pad for installation, appropriate lighting, and a permanent plaque recognizing the artist. A reception will be held in late summer unveiling the sculpture and recognizing the artist.
